Driving and Parking Information
Students driving to and parking at Belton High School, or any of the Belton School District properties, must have a parking pass registered with the school district. It is the responsibility of the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) to notify the school when a student begins to drive to school. Attempting to circumvent this policy by not notifying school staff is not excusable, and does not release students from the possibility of fines and eventual revocation of all parking privileges.
Risk & Safety
The parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student-driver assume the risk of harm or injury to the student or others. By voluntarily allowing the student to operate his/her/their vehicle, the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student will hold Belton School District and its officers and employees free from any liability. The parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student-driver are responsible for deciding when it is safe/unsafe to drive between school grounds or on the Belton High School campus. When weather conditions are hazardous, a shuttle bus will transport the students between campuses.
The student agrees to drive safely and in accordance with all laws while on and between Belton School District properties.
Applying for a Permit
Prior to the start of the school year, the driving/parking application is sent to all students 16 years of age or older (and parents of said students) that are currently enrolled at Belton High School. It is also available to incoming students at the time of enrollment. The application process is entirely online and can be found on the Belton High School website under Student Life. The application should be filled out prior to the student driving on campus. Failure to comply may result in fines and/or suspension/revocation of driving privileges.
To apply, a student must have a current/valid Missouri driver’s license. Students who only have a driver’s permit will not be accepted. The vehicle must be insured. The student’s name must appear on the proof of insurance. Driving on campus without a driver’s license will result in the immediate revocation of parking privileges. Driving an uninsured vehicle on campus will result in the immediate revocation of parking privileges and a referral to the Belton Police Department.
Purchasing a Permit
The cost of an annual parking permit is $40 for the entire year - this will be prorated. Once the application has been received and processed, the permit can be paid for either in the front office or through the My School Bucks. Once the payment is received, the parking placard can be picked up at the front office. The parking placard must be displayed at all times with the student permit number facing out.
Parking passes are awarded free of charge to students with 98% or higher attendance and fewer than 10 tardies to any class for the entire year from the previous school year. No refunds will be awarded once the fee has been paid.
Parking Locations
- Belton High School
Student parking is limited to the two west parking lots (Fieldhouse/Southwick Stadium) unless special arrangements are made. Parking on the north, south, or east side of the building without a special arrangement is strictly prohibited and will result in fines, and the possible suspension/revocation of parking privileges.
Parking spots in the Fieldhouse parking lot are numbered and assigned. Spots at Southwick stadium are not assigned, and the placard will read “stadium.” To park in either lot, students must have a valid parking permit. Students are to park in their assigned parking spots/lots. - Yeokum Center for Innovation
Students are to park on the east side of the building in the parking lot between Yeokum and the tennis courts. Parking along the driveway on the west side of the building is prohibited. Parking on the west side of the building without a special arrangement will result in fines, and the possible suspension/revocation of parking privileges. Parking spots at Yeokum are not numbered or assigned. - Other Belton Properties
If students travel to other buildings in the Belton School District, they are not to park in visitor parking spaces. Instead, students should park in the same lot as the teachers.
Privilege
Parking on school grounds is considered a privilege. Failure to honor the expectations of safe driving, as well as honoring a system that affords students with assigned space for the school year, may result in the revocation of driving privileges.
Cleanliness & Upkeep
Students are expected to be respectful of each other’s vehicles and assist with maintaining the parking lot by disposing of all trash in receptacles.
